Rhapsody in Blue is a 1924 musical composition by the American composer George Gershwin for solo piano and jazz band, which combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. The composition was commissioned by the bandleader Paul Whiteman. It was orchestrated by Ferde Grofé several times, including the original 1924 scoring, the 1926 "theater orchestra" setting, and the 1942 symphony orchestra scoring, though completed earlier
The Saint Louis Symphony does an outstanding rendition of his works. If you want his Broadway tunes or his solo piano specialities, you need to look elsewhere, but the SLS does a magnificent job on his orchestral pieces. One person found this helpful.
His older brother, Mark Warnow, was a conductor, violinist, and musical director for the CBS radio program Your Hit Parade and encouraged his musical career. Mark Warnow Powerhouse (instrumental) Johnny Williams (drummer) Irving Mills Carl W. Stalling. Warnow conducted the orchestra on the CBS radio program Your Hit Parade from 1939 to his death in 1949. Orchestra leaders over the years included Al Goodman, Lennie Hayton, Abe Lyman, Leo Reisman, Harry Salter, Ray Sinatra, Harry Sosnik, Axel Stordahl, Peter Van Steeden, Mark Warnow and Raymond Scott (1949–57).
