Roman Flügel's latest LP will land on ESP Institute next month. The album, called Themes, is the German artist's first on the Los Angeles label run by Lovefingers. His previous solo albums, including his last, 2016's All The Right Noises, have all appeared on Dial. The 13-track LP is out October 26th. The prolific artist released an EP, 1995, earlier this year, though Themes will be his first full-length project since last year's fabric 95 mix. He also made a notable remix in May of a track by the artist Wolfgang Tillmans . A new survey by Stockholm-based digital music distributor Record Union says that number for younger musicians is even higher-80 percent.
Roman Flügel has a new album, All The Right Noises, upcoming through Dial Records. All The Right Noises is Flügel's second solo release in 2016, after a recent 12-inch for Die Orakel. It's due to arrive in late October. Listen to a cut from his 2015 EP for Dial, Sliced Africa.
Roman Flügel has explored hard techno, acid trance, willfully lunkheaded electro-house, and lyrical deep house over his prolific career, but this is the furthest he has strayed from the dancefloor. Even within the context of that panoply of styles, All the Right Noises stands out as something we haven't heard from him before. The rest of the album tackles far more soothing sounds: Nameless Lake harnesses the chirps and chimes of Amber-period Autechre; the elegant, strutting Dust reimagines Jean-Michel Jarre as downbeat acid; and the melancholy Planet Zorg is sad-sack ambient house with a hint of shoegaze thrown into the mix, sparking memories of Superpitcher remixing M83.
