Plastisphere Thrill Jockey Records is pleased to announce Plastic Anniversary, the new album by Baltimore-based electronic duo Matmos

For their new album, Plastic Anniversary, Matmos tackle the ubiquitous material named in the title. We already know that plastic has a sound. On the one hand, plastic means fake, and music described as such is thought to be cheap, artificial. And yet creative uses of plastic are everywhere. The sound of plastic makes me think of a familiar sound of the city-kids on the street who play drums on buckets.

Matmos have announced a new album. Plastic Anniversary is out March 15 via Thrill Jockey. The record celebrates the duo’s anniversary as a couple. It was also recorded using exclusively sounds derived from plastic objects. According to a press release, the 11-track album aims to explore the world's relationship to plastic-a material whose durability, portability, and longevity, while heralded by its makers, are the very qualities that make it a force of environmental devastation. Check out the cover art, tracklist, and album trailer below.

On Plastic Anniversary, Matmos make a perfectly indestructible album from pure indestructible chaos. Curiously, it may also be the group’s most ‘organic’ record to date, an album whose every beat and every blip seems to question our sense of the real and the fake, the human and the alien.

please contact me if you sell one: I'd like to buy one.
I have the black vinyl edition. It sounds fantastic. Yay!
Does anyone know what the ball is for, I'm so confused.
It's a wooden float. The hole is for rope to go through.
My box set arrived (After multiple emails to Thrill Jockey, a company that's got to be amongst the worst I've ever dealt with - no email confirmation of order, hardly ever respond to emails or messages via Facebook messenger, and no tracking number given for delivery...) badly packaged that on opening I sliced into the box by mistake as it was only wrapped in brown paper! The lp is great, the bonus track is ok but not essential, the sculptural non playable lp is signed and fun. I've no idea why I had a wooden ball in my box as an extra if the concept is about plastic!?!The music on the album is great, quirky fun idm. I've yet to actually play the vinyl as I downloaded the lp direct using the included code. It in honesty doesn't look the best vinyl but that's probably because it's made of recycled old vinyl... hopefully that doesn't mean the sound quality suffers because I've experienced these before and re-ground vinyl can often result in a poor sound.Otherwise however the whole package is great, I do feel however that maybe more info in the box would be good for buyers to know more about the concept.I also bought the CD and that's packaged great but again little info as to the concept behind it.
I'm interested in buying a copy of this if anyone has one for sale!
....If you didn't pre-order be prepared to pay loads. Unfortunately.
Can any of you guys describe and/or upload the bonus track on this?
The bonus track is ok. I would say non essential but then again after listening to it and the lp as a whole it fits perfectly as an intro. Describing it is difficult, it's idm played using plastic debris and sequenced....like the rest of the lp.
its sounds like they play it on an plastic plastic
Wow, I only just got mine today and already someone is trying to flip it for $90? Booooooo!
It's nothing compared to the flippers charging 3 to 4 times what the Voyager Golden Record set cost (the original numbered one). The worst part was, people paid it even though a slightly different version of it is permanently available from OZMA for the same price the original went for.
Yes I do, the original price was $50. Sure it's only a $40 markup, but it had JUST come out.
Do you know what was the original price? Thanks for helping out.
...as always with Ltd editions. But unless eBay and Discogs ban this policy it'll always happen.Tip is to pre-order.
