Slapp Happy (also known as Casablanca Moon) is a studio album by German/British avant-pop group Slapp Happy, recorded at Virgin Records' Manor Studio in 1974. This album was originally recorded in 1973 in Germany under a working title of Casablanca Moon with Faust as Slapp Happy's backing band, but Polydor Germany rejected it. After moving to London and signing with Virgin Records, Slapp Happy re-recorded it (at Virgin's request) and it was released in 1974 as Slapp Happy

The Secret" could even be a potential commercial single. The remaining tracks here are from 1975's Desperate Straights, a surprisingly melodic album (especially considering that it is a collaborative effort with Henry Cow), light on the art school angst and heavy on the playfulness, which one would hardly expect from such determined socialists as these. But here it is: "Some Questions About Hats" sounds like a Kurt Weill outtake, and "A Worm Is at Work" gallops along with a sweet tune. Krause remains restrained and not given to flights of horrible fancy

Slapp Happy's magnificent Desperate Straights, enhanced by Henry Cow volunteering themselves as a backing band, is an excellent counterpoint to the Cow-backed-by-Slapp album In Praise of Learning. Aside from the excellent War, In Praise of Learning was focused mainly on unwelcoming avant-garde soundscapes; here, though, Slapp Happy's more song- based approach reigns supreme, as does a more diverse musical aesthetic. In 1974, Slapp Happy recorded their second studio album, 'Casablanca Moon'. After both albums, then the band merged with Henry Cow. The combined line up came up with two summaries of the vocabulary of progressive rock, 'Desperate Straights' and 'In Praise Of Learning', both in 1975.

Slapp Happy was formed in 1972 when British keyboardist and avant-garde composer Anthony Moore invited his friend, New York toonist/poet Peter Blegvad, to come over to Hamburg. Moore had already released several albums of new music for Polydor. When Polydor rejected one of his albums outright, he proposed a pop-oriented project instead. Local girl Dagmar Krause, a former member of the folk-rock group the City Preachers, was recruited as vocalist and Slapp Happy was born.
