Frontostriatal circuits are neural pathways that connect frontal lobe regions with the basal ganglia (striatum) that mediate motor, cognitive, and behavioural functions within the brain. They receive inputs from dopaminergic, serotonergic, noradrenergic, and cholinergic cell groups that modulate information processing. Frontostriatal circuits are part of the executive functions
Conceptual metaphor theory. Cite this publication. Conceptual metaphor theory. 1. introduction and a definition. Conceptual metaphor theory (CMT) started with George Lakoff and Mark Johnson’s book, Metaphors We Live By (1980). In the mapping circuit that characterizes metaphor, there are two groups of nodes. corresponding to source and target domain. The circuitry between the two groups of nodes.
The ventral tegmental area (VTA) (tegmentum is Latin for covering), also known as the ventral tegmental area of Tsai, or simply ventral tegmentum, is a group of neurons located close to the midline on the floor of the midbrain. The VTA is the origin of the dopaminergic cell bodies of the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system and other dopamine pathways; it is widely implicated in the drug and natural reward circuitry of the brain.

Metaphor – transference based on resemblance (similarity). Transference of the word as a name from one object onto another on the basis of similarity of certain features (signs) characteristic of both objects is called metaphor. Herman Paul points out that metaphor can be based on different types of resemblance: 1. similarity of shape. head of a cabbage, bottleneck, eye of a needle, teeth of a saw, teeth of a comb; sl. nut, onion (for head), saucers (for eyes), rails (for legs). A special type of metaphor is when proper names become common nouns. vandals (destructive people), a Don Juan (a lover of many women), quisling (the traitor), a Scrooge (a mean, miserly person). Metonymy – transference based on contiguity.
