The Eternal ‎(CD, Album, Unofficial). So Let's call it . (and mark it as 5).

The discography of American rock band Sonic Youth comprises 15 studio albums, seven extended plays, three compilation albums, seven video releases, 21 singles, 46 music videos, nine releases in the Sonic Youth Recordings series, eight official bootlegs, and contributions to 16 soundtracks and other compilations. In 1981, Sonic Youth signed with Neutral Records, and released its eponymous debut EP Sonic Youth the next year. The band's first full-length album was Confusion is Sex, released in 1983.

The Eternal" is the sixteenth studio album by Sonic Youth, released by Matador Records on June 9, 2009, their first on that label. It was their first studio album in three years (since "Rather Ripped"), making it the band's longest delay between studio albums.

The Eternal is Sonic Youth's first album for legendary indie label Matador Records after a nearly 20-year stint with Geffen Records, which dovetails nicely with the fact that this is also the band's first album with former Pavement bassist (and Matador alum) Mark Ibold. Sonic Youth even changed their usual songwriting approach, writing and recording tracks in quick batches instead of planning an entire song cycle at once. Dust wasn't allowed to settle on these songs, nor could it - the most striking thing about The Eternal is how hard it rocks.

Sonic Youth release their sweet sixteenth album via new label Matador Records later this year.

Sonic Youth's sixteenth studio album The Eternal is a landmark release that sees the band returning to its indie label roots. Chris Conti: I think the Matador record shows us in an excited and newly liberated state of play, Sonic Youth guitarist Thurston Moore told Stereogum. com back in April while discussing The Eternal, their sixteenth full-length album and first for hallowed indie Matador Records.

The final studio album in Sonic Youth’s three-decade career, The Eternal is an unusually explosive swan song. Not since Dirty had the band crafted such a consistently punchy collection. With Pavement bassist Mark Ibold providing extra ballast, the crunchy opener Sacred Trickster heralds the barrage of high-powered riffage found in Poison Arrow, Calming the Snake, and the muscular No Way. Kim Gordon sounds especially unbridled on Anti-Orgasm, a psych-garage stormer that adds yet more force to Sonic Youth’s grand finale. The Eternal Sonic Youth.
