Doris Duke (born Doris Curry; 1945) is an American gospel and soul singer, best known for her 1969 album I'm A Loser. Duke was born in Sandersville, Georgia, and reportedly started singing with gospel groups including the Queen of Gospel Albertina Walker and The Caravans, though this has been questioned. By 1963 she was working in New York City on sessions and as a backing singer at the Apollo Theatre. She also recorded some demos for Motown Records, but none were ever released.

This CD actually includes two albums produced by Swamp Dogg (Jerry Williams, J. for Doris Duke: "I'm a Loser" and "A Legend in Her Own Time. Whether you're talking about the first album or the whole package, it's all relevant: this music is amazing beyond words.

Doris Duke was born Doris Curry, in Sandersville, Georgia in 1945, although the month isn't known. By 1963, Doris had reached the New York City music scene and was earning a crust as both a session singer and a regular back-up artist at the city's famed Apollo Theatre. Running Away From Loneliness', her first single, came out in 1966.
