Polydistortion is the second studio album by Icelandic electronic music band GusGus. The album was released on 7 April 1997 on 4AD, serving as their first release on the label. The songs "Why?" and the band's cover of Slowblow's "Is Jesus Your Pal?" feature Emilíana Torrini on vocals. Most of the material on the album had previously been released independently, as the album GusGus in 1995. As of March 1999, the album has sold 40,000 copies in United States and worldwide sales stand at over 150,000 copies.
Gus Gus' first formal album as a full band was a quietly astonishing record - the "new Sugarcubes" tag which the band gained was always misleading, since instead of that group's fractured avant-rock approach, Gus Gus always tended toward a mix of understatement and chilling power.

Gus Gus create a multi-vibe stir with Polydistortion. At times as cold and icy as their frosty homeland (Iceland), at other times a rumbling volcano of pyrotechnic rhythms, the CD is a study in the dynamics of the electronic. Believe" is a rhythmic juggernaut, while "Gun" is a moody study of beats and texture. Why" is particularly stunning, a sparse torch song. The vocals and lyrics are well thought out and performed, the compositions are melodic and sustainable.
