David Mancuso, the pioneering DJ whose invite-only parties in the 1970s became the bedrock of New York’s underground dance culture, has died aged 72. Mancuso’s private parties at The Loft in Manhattan helped establish a vibrant alternative to New York’s commercial club scene in the early 1970s, famed for their exceptional sound quality rather than DJ showmanship. To me, any time you touch the pitch control, it changes what the artist intended, he told RBMA this year.

David Paul Mancuso (October 20, 1944 – November 14, 2016) was an American disc jockey who created the popular "by invitation only" parties in New York City, which later became known as "The Loft". The first party, called "Love Saves The Day", was in 1970. Mancuso pioneered the private party, as di. ore . Year: 1999. Style:MLA Chicago APA. "The Loft Album.

The notes should read, "The Selections were transferred from the Nuphonic cd's, not the master tapes".
Question for anyone who owns this one - how many pages are in the booklet? Thanks!
4 pages, front and back. I will see if I can add photos to this listing...Very interesting history in this and the Vol 2...
The booklet is very nice, it has 8 big pages. Mine also came with a small 3 page Nuphonic folded card order form for T-shirts, record bag, slipmats, back catalogue 12" vinyl and CDs.
This is an amazing piece of history. The musical is great and the package is really good - perfect pressings and the booklet is very good.
Nothing personal
Yup. Was also getting round to pinching a fresh set recently as mines pretty beat- and boom, all gone. Now for the disrespectful price increases...
Fuck, I knew these would all get snatched up this week. Fuck.
. . . rest in peace david mancuso . . .
Fantastic selections here, and the mastering is bang on, with the exception of SUN PALACE'S "Rude Movements" which appears to be a vinyl rip. (A bit of a disappointment there)
was only ever on vinyl, so yeah, vinyl rip. this comp also pre-dates the Sun Palace cd re-issue collection by more than a decade.
Just awesome. It may be a pricy purchase, but if you look at buying these brilliant tracks individually, it works out quite reasonable. A must have for any DJ's collection
what can be said this is a masterpiece if you need you will truly experience something unique this is the release note if it is available buy this cd fuck the cost buy it it is genius
Absolutely essential box set with lavish packaging and booklet. Also the pressing is very loud and clear which makes listening a real pleasure. Such a shame that Nuphonic folded before they got a chance to do a "Paradise Garage" or "Music Box" boxset. Loft 2 is also essential. As for the music itself - a mixture of genres - house, disco, dub, soul which goes to show that the best music transcends its genre (something that producers of "club" music should note). The famous quote "there are only two types of music - good and bad" applies here. This is all good!
CAN I POINT YOU TO THESE NICE RELEASES MATE IF YOU ARE STARVED OF VINYL ! ?http://www.discogs.com/Various-Larry-Levan-Live-At-The-Paradise-Garage/release/69246http://www.discogs.com/Various-Nicky-Sianos-Legendary-The-Gallery-The-Original-New-York-Disco-1973-1977/release/334474
Both Loft compilations (Vols 1 & 2) are essential pieces of Dance music history containing a wealth of amazing records spanning Disco, Soul, Funk, House, Dub, Disco Not Disco, Electronica, African Funk....They have exposed me to so many artists that I wouldn't have even contemplated or considered coming under the banner of Dance music. That's probably what was so amazing about clubs like The Loft and DJs such as David Mancuso, Larry Levan etc they played and broke great records regardless of their genre. They just had a philosophy of great music that you could dance to. They could drop music with guitars and get people dancing. There is too much pigeon-holing of music these days, going to a club just to check a DJ that plays one narrow style of music, no matter how great he/she is. There is so much fantastic music across the board that clubs should take a leaf out of the Loft's book and get back to basics playing great music regardless of the genre! RESPECT to David Mancuso, Larry Levan and all the DJs who followed in their footsteps.
