One of the best singers in the business, Billy Vera is also a unique songwriter of great range, a genre hopper able to go from R&B to pop to country to blues and remain authentic in each. This anthology covers three decades of his long career, starting with his duet with former gospel singer Judy Clay, "Storybook Children" (written with Chip Taylor) and ending with four tracks from a 1995 live performance that includes the modern blues standard "Room With A View" (written with Lowell Fulson) best-known in a version by Lou Rawls. This album also does not include any of Billy Vera's work with Judy Clay, with whom he formed the first interracial, coed singing duo in the late 1960s. Recommended for those looking for a good, non-overplayed 1980s song like "At This Moment. The "by request" and "best of" titles are both misleading because this non-live compilation is hardly exhaustive.
