Black Sea is the fourth studio album by the English band XTC, released 12 September 1980 on Virgin Records. Rock (Is Going to Help Me)". The album itself remains XTC's second-highest charting British album, placing at number 16, and the most successful US album of their career, peaking at number 41 on the Billboard 200.

Black Sea is an XTC album released on September 12, 1980. It spawned five singles - "Generals And Majors" (released August 9, 1980 and reached No. 32 on the UK singles chart and No. 104 on the Billboard Pop chart), "Towers Of London" (released October 10, 1980 and reached No. 31 on the UK singles chart), "Sgt. The album reached No. 16 on the UK album chart, No. 41 on the Billboard . Hot 100 album chart and No. 1 on the New Zealand album chart. Considered one of the more consistent albums by the group, Black Sea is not as raw as its predecessor, Drums and Wires, although it is still focused on big drums and sharp guitars. Early copies of the album came with the sleeve enclosed in a lime-green paper bag.

In 1980 their British tour partners XTC released their successful album Black Se. Johnnie and David Hepworth turn the spotlight onto two key long players – in 1985 the Village Voice critics poll voted Talking Heads Little Creatures album of the year. Five years earlier the American band had toured with Britain’s XTC (and released Remain In Light)

More Power Rock than Power Pop, when released in Sept. 1980, the album became XTC's first Top 20 chart album in the . narrowly missed the Top 40 (No. 41) in the USA where it was issued in November, but spent an impressive 24 weeks on the Billboard chart nonetheless.

I bought Black Sea on vinyl when it came out in 1980. It became part of a growing record collection, which included Bowie’s Scary Monsters, Peter Gabriel 3 and Talking Heads’ Fear Of Music (and Remain in Light).
