Band Name The Safety Fire. Album Name Grind the Ocean. The Saftey Fire can best be described as a blender of progressive metal with vocals that seem to be stuck in a medium between Between the Buried and Me's Tommy Rodgers and TesseracT's former frontman Daniel Tompkins. Riff wise, they are like a blend of Mastodon and Periphery. Musically, this is a prog musician's dream. With each track, the band delivers with a moment for the listener to breathe. Opening track and lead single "Huge Hammers" gives a good taste of what is to come. As frontman Sean McWeeney chimes in over guitarists Dez Nagle and Joaquin Ardiles, the band.
So it’s time for my first true Exception to the Rule in quite a while. I decided at some point I would try to avoid breaking our site’s moniker as much as I could, but I feel this album deserves the occasion. The Safety Fire have been picking up quite a bit of steam lately, introducing an interesting sound that has me slightly baffled, yet plenty fascinated. However, the future is currently irrelevant. What’s relevant is now, and Grind the Ocean is an impressive, technically adept, and progressive morsel of delightfully unorthodox taste. The album’s opener Huge Hammers is immediately indicative of this. A subdued riff plays in the background, only to crash forth into the song’s gravitas-inducing, disorienting verse riff.
With their expansive atmospheres and soaring melodies, The Safety Fire has pushed the boundaries of technical progressive metal in the ever-growing British progressive music scene since their inception in 2006, and now the band is finally ready to release their first full-length album, Grind The Ocean. The frontman has a great voice, both desirable cleans and nice growls. The guitarwork is first-rate and the drummer is "a drummer's drummer" pick up an album for cheap before they become a sensation in their genre. 4 people found this helpful.
